Technology for Solomon Islands
Computers are one of the most valuable resources in a classroom because they serve so many useful functions. With computers, and the Internet, students today have a wealth of information at their fingertips that can help them develop their communication skills and prepare them for future work in the employment field that is increasingly reliant on computer technology. One of the most common applications of computers in education today involves the ongoing use of educational software and programs that facilitate personalised online instruction for students at all levels.
T4SI's mission is to facilitate and support access to computer technology, the Internet, and online learning resources for schools and NGOs in the Solomon Islands.
Technology is a potent force in driving economic, social, political and educational reforms. Countries cannot afford to stay passive to ICT if they are to compete and strive in the global economy. The health of the economy of any country depends substantially on the level and quality of the education it provides.
Learning to use technology has become a global phenomenon. The Internet is seen as a tool that allows individuals to overcome the constraints and gain unhindered access to learning. Online technologies can help address issues of educational equity and social exclusion, and open up democratic and accessible educational opportunities.
The national governments and NGOs who fund educational endeavours in lesser developed countries have advocated the use of technology to reduce the cost of reaching and educating large numbers of children who are currently missing out on contemporary education.
Computer education has greatly improved educational administration by facilitating cross-communication, quick access to information, data analysis, and workload reduction. Computer literacy has played a crucial role in improving classroom management, learning effectiveness, and administrative efficiency in education.
